letter from the chair dr. demyttenaere

Dear SEAD students,

On behalf of myself and the Department of Surgery I would like to welcome you to the Surgical Exploration and Discovery (SEAD) program at the University of McGill. At the outset, I should like to thank Xin Mei Liu, Saba Balvardi, Billy He, Yujin Kang, Charmin Bang and all the Student Leads for working so diligently to make the SEAD program a reality. We are delighted to support this important initiative, which will provide you with a unique experience to gain more exposure to the world of surgery and its diverse specialties.

Throughout the next two weeks, you will enjoy observerships in the different surgical specialty areas, informal discussions with lead surgeons at various hospitals, and hands-on workshops where you can learn basic surgical skills and techniques.  But most of all, we want you to have fun and enjoy yourselves! Surgery remains a highly motivating and gratifying specialty in medicine, and our long term goal is to encourage the best and brightest medical students at McGill to consider surgery as a lifelong career.  I would remind you that much of the course is dependent on the schedules in the operating room, which are always more limited during the summer months. Thank you all for your participation in the SEAD program this year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sebastian Demyttenaere, MSc, FRCSC, FACS
